college basketball is once again alive and well down in storrs, ct ... university of connecticut basketball has played to a record of 56 WINS AND 2 LOSSES this winter ... the lady huskies are 29-0 and ranked #1 unanimously ... for the 17th week in a row ... the men are 27-2 and once again this week #1 ranked ... they had been #1 for 3 consecutive weeks until their mid-february loss to pittsburgh ... pittsburgh replaced the huskies at the top of the rankings ... and promptly lost to providence ... now the #1 tag is back on uconn ... the boys from storrs have just 1 game remaining before the big east tournament ... saturday afternoon (3/7) at pittsburgh ... regardless of outcome ... both teams should get #1 seeds in the field of 65

if both teams ... women and men ... win this year's national championships in basketball ... it would be a tremendous accomplishment no doubt ... but it would not be a first ... uconn women and men each won college basketball championships in 2004 ... for the women it was their 3rd consecutive title
